Marcie's point of view

The Hospitality House is not only a place for soldiers to come and relax and play games and fellowship, but it is where I live. I guess there are positives and negatives to being an MK (missionary kid). But over all it has been a mostly pleasant experience living in Hereford/Ft. Huachuca. Now that I have lived here for almost three years the happenings of the House have become more of a routine, but there are still things that aren't "normal" experiences. Not that my life could be categorized as normal. haha.
First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Marcie. I am the 17 year old daughter of Whitney and Jose Cordero. I help in the running of the house however my parents designate whether it be cleaning the house or babysitting the children during the bible study or helping keep an eye on the little ones on Sunday afternoons while some of the parents play games or relax. I am a senior in high school and a sophomore in college currently enrolled at Cochise Community College. I am one of four children. I have two older sisters and one younger brother. My parents have been involved in military ministry for much of my life and moving to Arizona didn't change the ministry so much as the location of where we did the ministry.
I must say that I love soldiers! Thank you to all soldiers and the families that so lovingly stand behind them so well! Your sacrifices are much appreciated!
I guess I will tell you about some of the soldiers that I have been close to here at the House. All of them have been in AIT and they have all been actively involved in the House. Attending not only the events that were sponsored by the House but also as many bible studies as they were able while still complying with their Drill Sergeants and other classes or requirements. I have been involved in the praise and worship band for the evening Cross Roads Service on post and several of the soldiers that I have been good friends with have also been involved in the band.
Life here in AZ is definitely different from the life I led in Virginia, however in many ways it is more fulfilling... Often times when I get in fights with my mom (yes we do fight like every other normal family) I tell her that "I didn't sign up to move to AZ and its not MY ministry!" But that is more wrong than I ever realized... My role here in AZ might seem small to me because I am not the one on the Cadence pay roll, but being here I play a vital roll in the running of the house. I become the little sister, daughter, and best friend that some of the soldiers leave behind... I become the daughter that some of the older soldiers haven't seen in months. And it is hard to say goodbye! Saying good bye is one of the things that I do the most here in AZ. But it never gets easier... The ministry here at Ft. Huachuca doesn't only touch those people who come to the house every week. The soldiers touch our lives as much as we hope to touch theirs. It is a two way ministry and I would be a fool to tell myself that any one of the people who help keep this house running doesn't matter. Or doesn't play an important roll in this house!

Horseback Riding

The Huachuca Hospitality House Riders gather after a two hour trail ride. We had a good mix of OBCs, AITs, MOSTs, and permanent party. A great big "thank you" to Mrs. Elizabeth Joy for providing the finances for the event.

Monsoon Rains

A typical rainy monsoon day at the Huachuca Hospitality House. The skies opened and dropped over six inches of rain in minutes. Praise God for the finished stucco work on the Hospitality House. We stayed dry inside.

Mountain Biking

We went Mountain Biking on Saturday, May 3rd. Here is a picture of most of the biking crew that rode up Garden Canyon.

I (Jose) will be the first to admit that at a certain age our bodies begin to indicate there are limitations within which we must stay in order to be 'comfortable'. Whitney and I almost exceeded those limitations, so we headed down the road/trail well before Jason, Hannah, Aaron and CH Kim did.

Whitney and I plan to continue "training" until we are able to greatly reduce the number of stops we make on our way UP the canyon...

HHH Stucco Repair Project

A gift from the Ft Huachuca Community Spouses Club along with a gift from a post-wide (base-wide for our non-Army friends) Designated Offering from the Chapels have made it possible to perform some critical structural repairs to the exterior of the HHH.

These are the Stucco Repairmen. Once they are done, we will be able to prime and paint before "monsoon season" (heavy seasonal rains) starts in early July.

Soldier Work-Day at the HHH

On Friday, April 4th, CH (CPT) Kim brought 25 D Company volunteers out to the Huachuca Hospitality House (HHH). These young volunteers spent the day helping with several labor intensive tasks (firewood cleanup, spreading gravel, and general maintenance).

We were able to share a Tommy Nelson video "God And The Military" which addresses what God's word says when it comes to bearing arms. This is a conversation these young soldiers need to have as they complete training that WILL take then to some of the more dangerous places on earth these days. Please be in prayer for these young men and women.
